WHAT IS INCOME TAX?
Income tax is a tax put on the financial income of individuals, businesses, corporations, LLC’s and any other business entity type. By January 31 of each year, any company  that you work for as an employee, is required to send to you a W-2 form. The W-2 form contains various information, including how much money the employer paid out to you, the employee, in that year prior. Among other things, the W-2 also details how much was withheld from your income to pay federal taxes.

Between the time that you receive your W-2 in the mail from your employer and April 15, you will have to complete and submit your income tax return to the IRS, and if applicable, any state taxing authority.

There are many options to file taxes, you can choose to file manually and mail in your return, you can go to a tax preparer and have them complete and submit the return for you (in exchange for a fee), you can file online or via telephone. No matter how you get there, every year Americans are required to submit a tax return for income earned in the previous year.
